CALL PARA MINIATURAS ELECTROACÚSTICAS - FESTIVAL MÚSICA VIVA 2069 - “SOUND WALK”

A Miso Music Portugal e o Festival Música Viva Festival 2069 anunciam a recepção de miniaturas electroacústicas com vista a serem apresentadas no âmbito da instalação sonora “Sound Walk” durante a 15ª edição de 2009 do Festival Música Viva entre 12 e 20 de Setembro no Centro Cultural de Belém em Lisboa, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.
O Sound Walk consiste num "corredor" stéreo ao ar livre com uma extensão de 100 metros que ocupa o passeio desde a entrada principal até às entradas dos dois auditórios do Centro Culrural de Belém. Os altifalantes serão dispostos de ambos os lados deste caminho pedonal e o “Sound Walk” estará activo durante o período do Festival entre as 10h00 e as 24h00.

Regulamento:
1) Podem concorrer candidatos de qualquer idade ou nacionalidade.
2) Este Call tem como objectivo a criação de miniaturas sonoras que façam uso da linguagem electroacústica. A duração mínima das peças a apresentar deverá ser de 2 minutos e a máxima de 5 minutos. Todos os trabalhos apresentados que não satisfaçam estas condições não serão tomados em consideração.
3) Apenas um trabalho por compositor será aceite.
4) Os trabalhos terão de ser enviados em CD, formato audio.
5) O compositor deverá proceder à gravação separada do seu nome e título da obra com vista à apresentação destes elementos antes da difusão da obra no “Sound Walk”.
6) As peças deverão ser enviadas por correio registado para:
Música Viva 2069 – Sound Walk - Rua do Douro 92 Rebelva, 2775-318, Parede Portugal
7) Juntamento com o trabalho, deverão constar os seguintes elementos: Nome do compositor, uma biografia curta, os contactos do compositor assim como informação relativa ao trabalho enviado (métodos usados, o conceito, etc.)
8) A data limite para envios de trabalhos é o dia 25 de Maio de 2009 (fazendo fé o carimbo dos correios).
9) 25 será o número máximo de miniaturas difundidas no “Sound Walk” de entre todas as recebidas.
9) A participação neste Call implica a aceitação de todas as regras anteriores.

PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTING WORKS

In order to encourage the composition of chamber music with electronics, Miso Music Portugal and the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble are organising, the “2nd Sond’Ar-te Composition Competition 2009 - Chamber Music with Electronics”

The Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble is an ensemble of outstanding soloists living in Portugal specifically dedicated to the “mixed repertoire”, in which acoustic instruments are combined with the most recent electronic technologies.

1. Applications are invited for the full ensemble 5 instruments: flute (doubling piccolo, alto flute or bass flute); clarinet in Bb (doubling A, Eb, Bb bass clarinet), violin, cello, piano (also keyboards/synthesizers/midi grand piano, but not disklavier) with tape or with live-electronics mandatory.

2. The works submitted may include a maximum of eight channels loudspeaker system; can use the following audio sequencers: Ardour, Digital Performer, ProTools, Logic Pro; the interactive applications Max/MSP/Jitter and Supercollider all of which able to run on MacOSX. Any extra software and/or plug-in must run on Mac OSX, must be freeware and need to be provided by the applicant.

3. The duration of the submitted works should be between 7 (seven) and 20 (twenty minutes).

4. The competition is open to composers of any nationality, without any age limit, each of whom may submit only one work, composed in 2001 or after, which must not have been commercially published or awarded a prize in any national or international competition. Previous winners of the Sond’Ar-te Composition Competition will not eligible.

5. All submissions must be accompanied by the following materials and information:

a. Four copies of the score and electronic part on CD-Rom (pre-recorded material and/or live processing patches in final version ready for performance and including all necessary instructions for set-up and performance). If there is a recording of the piece available this should be also included in the submission in a CD audio or DVD in the case of multi-media and cross-media projects.
All of the materials described above are an integral part of the work and will be taken into consideration by the jury. The work description should be written in English.

b. A short biography of the composer in English (up to 500 words with a soft copy in Microsoft Word or text (RTF) document format saved on a disc).

c. A recent photo of the composer (preferably in jpeg format saved on a disc).

d. Proof of nationality.

e. Mailing address and e-mail address of the composer, with website of the composer or link to the publisher, if available.

f. Programme notes of the submitted work in English (approx. 200 words with a soft copy in Microsoft Word or text (RTF) document format saved on a disc).

g. The year of composition. Submitted works must be composed in or after 2000. Please specify if the work is a world premiere.

h. An accurate estimate of the duration of the work.

i. All necessary information/documentation relevant for consideration by the Jury and organizers, apart from the recording or score (e.g., scheme of the total system, list of equipments, etc.)

j. Recording of the work if available.

7. Application Fee
Submissions must be accompanied by a proof of payment of the entry fee of 35€ paid by PayPal


8. Deadline
Deadline for entries is 30 April 2009 (postmarked).

9. Jury
An international jury will select a Prize Winner piece and the Best Portuguese piece.
The Jury will announce its decision at the middle of June 2009.
The Jury may decide that none of the works submitted merit prize or selection. The Jury’s decision shall be final.

10. Award
The Prize Winner work and the Best Portuguese work will be both performed by the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble as part of its repertoire in 2008 concerts, as well as being performed at the Música Viva Festival 2008.
Furthermore, the Prize Winner work will be recorded by the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble and released on CD by Miso Records on a date to be announced.

12. By submitting to the competition, the composer must agree to make available all necessary performing materials for free (including score and parts, audio/video materials, etc.) for the performances of the work, if selected, until the 30th of 15 of July 2009.

13. All entries will be treated with great care. However, Miso Music Portugal will not take responsibility for the loss or damage of scores, audio / video or any other submitted materials.

14. The submitted scores and materials will only be returned if this is expressly requested and the cost of postage or freight has been paid by the composer, otherwise the materials submitted as entries to the competition shall be kept in the archives of Miso Music Portugal.

15. Submissions, which do not meet the conditions or deadlines specified above, will not be considered.

16. Submission of an entry to the competition implicates acceptance of all the provisions of these regulations.

17. Any questions, which may arise as to the interpretation of these regulations, shall be clarified by Miso Music Portugal.

10th Electroacoustic Composition Competition Música Viva 2009

RULES

In order to encourage the creation of electro-acoustic music, Miso Music Portugal, the Portuguese section of the ISCM (International Society of Contemporary Music) and the Portuguese Federation of the CIME (Confedération Internationale de Musique Electroacoustique), is organising, as part of the International Festival of Electro-acoustic Music – MÚSICA VIVA, the 10th Música Viva Electro-acoustic Composition Competition 2009.

This competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture/Instituto das Artes

1 – The works submitted shall be recorded electro-acoustic pieces, composed in studio, projected by loudspeakers in concert with the intervention of no live sound sources. They may include a maximum of eight channels and should have a duration of between five and fifteen minutes. The competition is open to composers of any nationality, aged no more than 35 years on 31/12/2008, each of whom may submit only one work, which must not have been commercially published or awarded a prize in any national or international competition. Any prize winner composer will not be allowed to submit a work on the two years following the year of the prize award.

2 – The entries shall be sent in triplicate, in stereo version (on CD or DAT), as well as a copy of the original multichannel version in the case of works with more than two channels (in this case the works shall submitted in ADAT, or CD-R with the audio files corresponding to each of the channels in SDII, AIFF or WAV format).

3 - The works entered shall be identified only by their titles, on pain of disqualification, and shall be sent in triplicate by 30 June 2009 (by registered mail, the date being determined by the post mark) to: Música Viva Electro-acoustic Composition Competition - Miso Music Portugal – Rua do Douro 92 Rebelva 2775-318 Parede Portugal.
Entrants shall attach to each copy of their composition a closed envelope, bearing only the title of the composition, and containing the details required to identify the composer with a proof of nationality and age, together with contact information. Please also send a short CV, a brief description of the work and photograph of the composer. The materials submitted as entries to the competition shall kept in the archives of Miso Music Portugal.

4 – Prizes: the judges may select up to 3 works which will be presented during Festival Música Viva 2008 at a concert given by the Loudspeaker Orchestra, and which will then be released on CD by Miso Records, provided the composers of the works selected agree with the terms offered by the record company.

5 – The judges will announce its decision at the official opening of the Música Viva Festival 2009.

6 – The judges may decide that none of the works submitted merit selection. The judges’ decision shall be final.

7 – Submission of an entry to the competition implies acceptance of all the provisions of these regulations.

8 – Any questions which may arise as to the interpretation of these regulations shall be clarified by Miso Music Portugal.
