The 13th edition of the Música Viva Festival, in 2007, will be extended to Lisbon and Porto. For two intensive weeks, concerts will take place in the Franco-Portuguese Institute, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Casa da Música. The highlight will be the Portuguese musical creation and the relations between music and technology, evidence of its full vitality and diversity.
The Música Viva Festival has achieved recognition both nationally and internationally as a vast breathing space for exchanging and discussing ideas and aesthetics; it is a renowned meeting point for music and technology, instrumental - analogical and virtual – electronic realms. Once again, it will present the most prominent names alongside the youngest composers and performers in 23 concerts, 5 installations and 4 conferences – including large orchestras, the Loudspeakers Orchestra and its notorious concerts, chamber music, installations, video, children’s concerts…
Overall, the Festival will present 80 works, of which 30 Portuguese premieres and 13 World premieres. Among these are 37 works by Portuguese composers and the revealing number of 10 World premieres that confirm the liveliness of the present creative activity in Portugal to which the Festival gives expression.
The richness and vastness of the programme doesn’t allow the mention of only a few shows, for each of them is unique in one specific feature and provides space to music and culture, the aspects that identify and distinguish us as humans. However, the exceptional qualities of Casa da Música make it possible this year to present several sound installations, which defy their own definition and will, for the duration of the Festival, give answer to the occupation of the building’s multiple spaces.
Finally, we greet this first partnership with Casa da Música, which welcomes a large part of this years’ programme, with great enthusiasm, while keeping in mind all the public and private entities that have dynamically supported this project through the years, allowing for the Música Viva Festival to become this vast space for exchanging and discussing ideas and aesthetics.
