1 — Des temps oubliés (2012 / 12:33)
In 2011, the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt was celebrated. Des temps oubliés is a modest homage to the Hungarian composer and pianist. Musical fragments appear and are rapidly absorbed into this new soundscape of the technological revolution. With thanks to Christian Zanési, Robin Minard and François Couture (piano).
Des temps oubliés was commissioned by the Ina-GRM with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and was produced in the GRM studios in Paris (France). In 2014, Des temps oubliés was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Concours international de composition électroacoustique de Monaco (CICEM) and was finalist in the 1st KLANG! electroacoustic composition competition (Montpellier, France).
2 — Vol de rêve (2005 / 10:38)
Frist movement of Ombres, espaces, silences…
For Ombres, espaces, silences…, I wished to revisit the music of early polyphony, from Ars Antiqua and Ars Nova, up to the XIVth century. The idea was to have this world of intervals and chords coexist with the much vaster world of sound and noise. This universe of noises is used as a setting to present, or rather poetically evoke, modified fragments of the first moments of Western music.
Commissioned by the ZKM — Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe (Germany). Produced at the ZKM. Thanks to Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and to the ZKM for their support. Mention d’Honneur in the 2005 Prix Ars Electronica, Linz (Austria) and Finalist in 2005 in the 32nd Concours international de musique Électroacoustique de Bourges (France).
3 — Un cercle hors de l’arbre (2014–15 / 10:30)

Loosely inspired by La Jetée (1962), a short science fiction film by Chris Marker about time travel from a future post-apocalyptic world.
Un cercle hors de l’arbre was composed in Studio PANaroma de Música Eletroacústica da Unesp (São Paulo, Brazil) with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and mastered in 2015 in the composer’s personal studio. In 2014, Un cercle hors de l’arbre was awarded Second Prize in the 8th Concours de composition électroacoustique Destellos (Mar Del Plata, Argentina).
4 — Golem (2013 / 10:35)
This work, freely adapted from Gustav Meyrink’s 1914 novel, The Golem, was composed in a manner that allows it to be completely “played” on a malletKAT by a percussionist. The malletKAT is a MIDI instrument that has a configuration closely resembling that of the marimba. All the sounds in the composition are stored on a sampler, to be played back live in performance by the percussionist. Golem also exists as an acousmatic work, so the piece can be presented with or without a live performer.
Commissioned by Rick Sacks (Toronto) with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec. Produced in Miso Music’s Centre for Musical Creation in Rebelva (Portugal) as well as at the EMS studios in Stockholm (Sweden). Golem was Finalist in 2016 at the Musica Nova competition in Prague (Czech Republic).
Gilles Gobeil has completed a master’s degree in composition at Université de Montréal, after
studying writing techniques. He has been focusing his work on acousmatic and mixed music
since 1985. His works fall close to what is called « cinema for the ear ». Many of his pieces have been inspired by literary works and attempt to let us « see » through sound.
His composition has received numerous recognitions, most notably the Musica Nova

Gilles Gobeil is a member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC), and co-founder of Réseaux, an organization devoted to producing media arts events.
