Clarinet Twins: Noel Taylor e Alberto Popolla

Noel Taylor (UK), clarinet and bass clarinet

Noel Taylor moved to Lisbon from London in 2017 and rapidly established himself as an active member of the improvising community here. Taylor has played clarinet alongside many well-known musicians, in the UK, Portugal and the rest of Europe.  Clare Simmonds, a collaborator, described him as  “gifted, dedicated and innovative, Noel Taylor is an inspired improviser… Noel brings a freshness and intensity to every improvisation that makes him a joy to play with.” As a regular ‘conductor’ for both the London & the Berlin Improviser Orchestras, Taylor has played at many venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Kings Place, Café Oto, Aufsturz, B Flat, Schlot, the Vortex etc. He has also made conductions in Rome, Portugal and Sicily. Two of his on-going projects, ‘Bay’s Leap’ and ‘Splatter’, have toured Portugal during 2018, performing at SMUP, Saláo Brazil, Museu José Malhoa, MIA Festival and other venues. Both tours involved collaborations with Portuguese musicians: Carlos Zingaro, Paulo Chagas, Pedro Melo Alves, Luis Jose Martins and Paulo Galão.
