Electronic Portugal

Loudspeaker Orchestra

The early days of the history of electronic music in Portugal are marked by the lack of resources for its realization and production. In the 1950s and 60s, after the foundation of the first electronic music studios in France and Germany, many more equally pioneering centres began to appear in other countries, yet the institutions in Portugal remained insensitive to these new music currents. Nevertheless, in spite of the lack of means, still in the 1960s and 70s some Portuguese composers managed to become part of this true 20th century music revolution. However it was only in the 1990s, with the advent of digital music and the democratization of the production means, that electronic music creation in Portugal began to develop itself, being today a prevailing practice.

This Miso Music Portugal concert programme with the Loudspeaker Orchestra, seeks precisely to introduce some of the Portuguese pioneers in electronic music as well as, apart from this legacy, the most recent generations of composers. The choice of works for the programme below is not exhaustive and it can be easily adapted according to the place and context of the concert.
The Miso Music Portugal Loudspeaker Orchestra is a multichannel system for sound projection designed for diffusion of electronic music. Its main objective is to introduce an interpretative dimension to electronic music, as well as to ritualize its performance, enabling and expressive communication with the audience.
